AMPlicons: A Practical Molecular Toolkit and Case Studies

Presented by the AMP Training & Education Committee

Wednesday, October 31, 2018 | 8:00am - 3:45pm

Location: San Antonio, TX

DESCRIPTION:

Join us for an interactive course designed to provide an overview of techniques and instrumentation used from the framework of the "Molecular Pathology/Molecular Diagnostic Toolkit." In this course, faculty members will present case studies to demonstrate the toolkit’s methodologies and technologies and participants will breakout into small groups to determine what tests to order and how to use the platforms presented. Emphasis will be placed on molecular testing in the areas of clinical genetics, solid tumors, hematopathology, and infectious diseases. The application of novel technologies, such as next generation sequencing and informatics, will also be highlighted.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Compare and contrast a number of commonly utilized "ready out of the box" platforms with regard to their non-template amplification methodology and their clinical utilization.
  • Enumerate several technological and clinical adaptations for PCR, non-PCR based amplification and array platforms.
  • Discuss the methodologic and clinical considerations of when to implement testing by NGS.
  • Compare and contrast methods of single nucleotide variant detection, copy number detection, and structural variant (fusions) detection by NGS and other related platforms (for CNVs).

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

CME/CMLE Credit

This activity (“AMP Molecular Pathology Outreach Course 2018”) was planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP). The ASCP is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The ASCP designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 4.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This continuing medical laboratory education activity is recognized by the ASCP for up to 4.75 hours of CMLE credit. ASCP CMLE credit hours meet the continuing education requirements for the ASCP Board of Certification Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) and state relicensure requirements for laboratory personnel. Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

SAM Credit

This activity (“AMP Molecular Pathology Outreach Course 2018”) is approved by the American Board of Pathology for a maximum of 4.75 SAM Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Participants must successfully complete the online exam (answering at least 80% of the questions correctly).

Instructions for how to claim credit will be emailed to participants after the course.

AMP 2018 ANNUAL MEETING & EXPO

Plan now to stay after the course and attend the entire Association for Molecular Pathology 2018 Annual Meeting & Expo! The scientific sessions of the AMP Annual Meeting & Expo will take place from November 1-3, 2018; immediately following the AMP 2018 Molecular Pathology Outreach Course.

**Separate registration is required to attend the AMP Annual Meeting & Expo**
